“Pag-ako nagka-farm!” this is what my father use to tell us 10 years ago. We always tease him as to when will this farm exist. He would always tell us that if he will be the one to plant and grow a certain fruit, it would be more delicious than what we were buying at the store. Now, my dad is living his dreams even though there are still so many thing to develop.
After a year or two, my father bought this 1 ½ hectare rice field at San Jose, Nueva Ecija. Nueva Ecija is not only known for its main product which is the rice, it is also famous and a top producers of other vegetable crops such as onions (tanduyong a variety of onion), tomatoes, squash, eggplant and garlic.
He named the farm, Finiama Farm as a joke to my mom who is like a Lion when she is mad. According to him, Finiama is a word from Africa, which means ‘pride rock’, or lion’s lair. This is where my father envisions himself to spend most of his time after his retirement.
For one and a half hectares, there are loads of products planted here. To name some there’s guapple, chico, pomelo, jackfruit, papaya, tomato, eggplant and petchay. But the primary product here is mango, banana and rice.
My own family and me live near the city at Cavite. From there you could only see neighbor houses, vehicles, a very few trees, dogs and cats. Whenever the weather is good I let my son play outside the streets with kids at his own age. It’s the same view for him everyday here at our place. So most of the time I bring him over to his grandparents place at Nueva Ecija and I can see why my son is totally in love with the place. It’s adventure and freedom. He totally enjoy the grass on his feet and how get gets excited on wearing his “uniform” to go to the field.

Life at the farm compared to the life here at the city is a total bliss. It is a total haven for me. Simple, peaceful and healthy living, best of what nature has got to offer. Living on a farm gives you a healthy environment to live in contrast to living on the city where population and pollution are high. And did you know that fresh air is good for you? Of course you do! ^.^
Fresh air offers more oxygen, since it doesn’t have pollutant in it. This kind of air cleans out our lungs, clean lungs means more oxygen for us to inhale and increased oxygen produces more energy. Our brain needs the 20% of oxygen to function. So if we are breathing fresh air, we are supplying great amount of oxygen to our brain thus we can think better than we could before.
Lesson: If you are planning to divorce your wife/husband, go grab some fresh air first, this might help you think clearly and save your relationship! Lol!
Finiama Farm is also blessed with a beautiful mountain scenery and an amazing sunrise view. I therefore conclude, that living a simple farm based life is highly recommended! Especially if you have children. Here, you can enjoy the gifts of nature, you can nurture them yourself and literally eat the fruits of your labor! ^.^
